Paid Speeches

I was kind of really amazed about the articles written by Rachel Rose Hartman from yahoo.com saying that former United States, President George W. Bush is earning from his speeches. Yes! It's my first time to hear someone earning as much as $15 million for 140 speeches. Is this such a good news or what? How could you imagined such amount where you valued per speech at $110,000? How true is it, we never know!

But she goes on, citing another example of a former US president. Bill Clinton who also earned $65 million after his final term. The most interesting about Bill Clinton is that out of his total speeches, 36 of it is valued at $7.5 million or $208,000 per speech. Awesome isn't it?

I wonder if this is the case here in the Philippines. Now, this could be a stunning opportunities for famous and eloquent people whether in public or private speaking. This will be a great idea for people who are good speakers to earn as much as he wanted. And so the saying goes, "the things of this world are no longer free or even affordable.." that even speeches are paid.

Toll Fee

Two days ago, it was Wednesday morning, we went to our apartment in San Pedro, Laguna to fix minor problems about the gutter. Our tenant send me a message twice Monday evening regarding the water that overflowed whenever the rain poured. I think it was impossible for a short rain drops, to create such overflowing. So, I had to find out as I told her earlier to check whether there are garbage or something that stuck in the hole.

I drove the a car little faster so we can go home as early as possible. On the way to South Superhighway, I took out my wallet to take P100 for the Toll fee. Approaching Susana Heights toll gate, I looked at the signboard where the amount to be paid is listed. Wow! I was really surprised because the tool fee did increase by P44 paying P120, compared to the amount I used to, which was only P76(from C5 to Susana Heights).

Well, that's life! If you want to take the fastest route then you had to pay the right amount. Do this is if you really want to avoid too much traffic. And if you don't, take the service road and expect more hassles and heavy traffic. Else, use a single motor for a faster ride but be cautious.

My Side on RH Bill

This highly controversial Reproductive Health Bill (RH Bill) becomes a divisive issue among Filipinos. There is the CBCP, some experts, academic, the politicians and the masses who aired their sides too. Why? What's The big issue with this controversial RH Bill?

The Catholic Bishops Conference in the Philippines, is said to be threatening the President of excommunication once he supported the said bill. They are totally in opposition because they said that it will be the gate to the making of divorce here in our country.

And just yesterday, I've read their statement regarding this which they said that those who supported or in favor of RH Bill has marital problems. This statement created furious comments among readers which showed disrespect to the Catholic Bishops especially Bishop Arguelles.

Such proposal is in great debate too, since the Filipino (Taxpayers) and private sector will fund and undertake wide distribution of family planning devices such as IUDs and Birth Control Pills through proper dissemination with the use of health care centers. This will cost a lot of money! What's next? Who will benefit the most from this kind of proposal?

It was proposed in 1998 by House Minority Leader Edcel Lagman and until now was still an issue which only means it's not yet time to get serious on this matter.

I will not talk more on this matters since it will not really help nor prevent population control in our country. Take a look at other country and study their population. Let us examine how these first world countries have developed their country. Consider Canada, they need more workers because they need to compete and develop more of their resources offering the best jobs available for qualified applicants. It only implies that they lacked human resources that their population cannot meet. Look at South Korea, instead of controlling their population, they encourage their people to produce more offspring looking forward in the near future of losing more quality workers which will require them to hire foreigners.

Knowing that Philippines is the "12th most populous nation in the world today", does not mean that we are the worse country ever in the world history. Instead use it as an advantage by means of quality planning. Develop more quality education by providing more technical courses and send them to better countries to earn more money and help provide for their own families. Distribute our so-called quality and professional workers in foreign lands as if we are conquering the world looking for greener pastures and not for wars. Teach our people to pay their taxes for our country's development like Japan. Take away that corrupt officials who is spending much of the government's money in their personal needs rather than using it in developmental projects.

If we think we are over populated then look at the map, try some Google earth, then you will know what I'm saying. If you are riding on a plane, look at the window and you know how vast is our land which is wide enough for our people to live within. Consider the ever neglected Visayan and Mindanao Islands. These are the lands being deprived of having greater share of our country's much resources. If the government thinks that our population is too heavy to handle then divide the land and let them choose their own leader.

RH Bill is not the solution to control population. Provide more technical courses and create more jobs and make a lot of Filipinos to get busy. You know what's next?

What If Bin Laden Is Dead?

A still of 2004 Osama bin Laden videoImage via Wikipedia
I've read that an intelligence report have stated that Osama Bin Laden is dead. He was shot in the head. He was reportedly killed in Pakistan. Even US Pres. Barack Obama announced on Sunday that Osama is dead. Now, what's next?

The said report brings a lot of reaction from US officials and from its citizens especially from those relatives and victims of 9/11 tragedy. That was a tremendous disaster upon US people where many lives had gone. The world mourned in behalf of the US.

So, with this, they rejoiced upon the death of one man who is the alleged mastermind. But no matter what, the death of Bin Laden is not sufficient to bring back the life of those who went in a tragic death. Not even a single cells of it can make the victims forget and forgive. As long as the world lies in sins, there will still be Osama bin Laden. He is everywhere as terrorist is everywhere, too. There's no assurance that the world is safe, even the US.

Mark this day!
